In order to gain a better understanding of how Ukrainian citizens think and feel about energy-related issues, the Regional Environmental Center (REC) conducted a survey in the five LINK beneficiary municipalities (Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy, Lubny, Poltava and Berdychiv) in July and August 2016. The survey is part of a process to develop local energy security action plans under the first component (Local Environmental and Energy Security Action Planning) of the LINK project.
The REC developed a questionnaire that local partners used to examine the opinions of citizens on how energy resources are managed in their municipalities, how they hear about energy-related projects, and how energy security can be improved. The public opinion assessment covered more than 10,000 households (roughly 3 percent of the total number of households) in the five municipalities. The results were processed in an electronic database and will soon be made available to the public. The survey results will be used in the next steps of the local energy security planning process.
In parallel, the project's local partners are working to collect energy-related data to assess the current situation, which will be used as a basis for the further planning of actions aimed at improving energy security.
